1) we have visitors! one of the weekend highlights was the arrival of my nearly-aunt Jan Gold and her cousin Sally Gold. these sweet gals have been on a tour of the southern states and the beautiful temples in the area for a few days. they were sweet enough to make a detour on their way to western NC, to stop in and see the kids and i. it has been most enjoyable having visitors. we don't get many of those!
2) i'm not sure what demon has a hold of my sweet little Mr. D but he has been the most defiant, fierce little man lately. i try to keep reminding myself that it's just a phase and he will return to his sweet little self again at any moment. he's angry and very determined to have his way most of the time. after the experience of raising M through her toddler years - with her obedience and presence always underfoot - D has been most challenging. he will run out into the parking lot, almost as if he's trying to just disobey me. i hope it's just a phase.
3) i get to go and see wicked again!! after returning from NYC, i was telling my dear pal Dottie (who celebrates her birthday this week!) about the show. she was so excited and immediately went home to scour the internet for details of where the show might be playing, hoping it would be somewhat close by. turns out the show is in atlanta and we are catching the matinee on thursday. i'm excited to see it again! i enjoyed it so much the first time.
4) it's official. i was sustained today as the primary president. i'm still sort of replaying my response to the bishop (seriously?? me?!) over and over in my mind. this week i had a recurring nightmare that when they called my name there would be an audible gasp from the congregation. today i did feel like there was an audible gasp - but perhaps it was the other women in the ward thinking, "oh good! it's not me!" or, "whew! dodged that bullet!" or, "sucker!!" in all seriousness though, i have received many kind words of encouragement, and i am looking forward to the challenge and hopefully the opportunity to serve in one calling at a time. i have yet to be released from organist and choir pianist, though i'm positive those changes are coming.
5) field trip day is tomorrow! M's new class is headed off to a nature preserve. the overprotective mother in me is driving her down in my own car (i'm ok with the school bus on our quiet neighborhood streets, but the freeway? not a chance.) i'm excited to spend a few hours with her and hopefully get to know some of the other parents. M is thrilled about it. the kids all wear matching t-shirts and she thinks that is the coolest. i hope the trip is the coolest.
6) i have a couple of things to say about my two bestest friends in the whole world. first - Shannon - her sweet Grandma B passed away this week. she was the most fun, most hilarious grandmother i have ever known. she was smart and so tender and sweet to her grandchildren. Sharn, i know how much you loved her and thankfully, you do a perfect impression of her so we can always have a bit of Grandma B around. i will be thinking of you at the funeral tomorrow. all my love to you and the whole family...
second - Julie - she will celebrate her birthday this week. the big 30. no more "i'm younger than you" crap. we'll all officially be in the same decade again! and once we're all in the 30's we stop counting birthdays right!? jules, i wish you a happy, happy halloween birthday. one of these years we'll be together for our birthdays. i love ya.

You will be an AWESOME Primary President. Just watching you today take charge of all those little wiggly people, it's as if I could see the literal Mantel handed over to you!
And seeing WICKED again with ME so soon is also AWESOME!!!!! Can' wait!
I always love your Sunday Six. Can I just say that I have been having the same issues with Josh as of late. He totally does the run out into the parking lot thing, it is driving me bonkers. I want to see Wicked, I've heard it is great! Have so much fun!
Love you too! And I was thinking the exact same thing about Shannon's impression of Grandma B. A part of her will still be here with us!
Wow, primary president!!! You'll be awesome! I'm still having those moments (me???? seriously????? why?????). Is it me or is our ward all about change, all the stinking time! I'm ready for some mellow consistency :)
thanks for the messages (i've listened to the one of you crying on my phone a dozen times) and for the blog post. when i get myself together, i'm sure i'll post it myself! and i think you'll be the BEST PP, they couldn't have picked a better person in my book!
good luck with primary-you'll do great! If it makes you feel any better Nicole Hooper is the YW president in her ward in TN!
Congratulations on your calling, Angie! They give that one to great people, you know? (My mom is the Primary President in her ward)... You'll have to swap ideas. =)
Ian is a runner... not just in the parking, but when it's time to get dressed, put his shoes on, brush teeth, leave the house-- he just disappears. I think/HOPE it's a phase too.
