7 painful years

on the radio today, a commentator asked the question, "do we replay the events of 9/11 too little or not enough?"

painful as it may be to watch the events of that horrific day, i think it would do americans good to watch the footage from time to time. it still absolutely shocks me - taking my breath away. just the enormity of it all - wow.

and yet, 7 years have passed so quickly. i thought today of the families who lost their moms and dads and brothers and sisters. of the once little babies, now little kids, who never knew their parents, starting 2nd grade and living a "normal" life.

how painful it is to think that the number of troops who have given their life in the service our country since that horrible day, has surpassed the number of americans who actually died on 9/11/2001. so many broken hearts...

what breaks my heart? 7 years later and only the pentagon has what i would call a MEMORIAL (which was dedicated today)...compared to the makeshift/temporary memorial in pennsylvania (not scheduled to be complete until 2011 - the 10 year anniversary) and the gaping wound still scarring lower manhattan. from what i've read the goal is for the wtc memorial in manhattan to also be completed by 2011, but there are many challenges with that goal.

i know it's no comparison, but in my town, they threw up a best buy, ashley furniture, burger king, etc., in about 2 weeks. what is taking so long?? i can only imagine for the families, how hard it would be to descend into that same hole each year and cast my rose into the small pool at my feet. for their sake i hope all the contracts can be secured and these companies can get their jobs done on time.
