spring break 2012

we knew we would be leaving the east coast in the summer and decided to take advantage of our proximity to washington, d.c. for spring break this year.  of course it is a special place for me and i absolutely LOVED sharing it with my kids.  philip and i went before marissa was born.  it hasn't changed much, but there was a lot of construction while we were there.  the kids were troopers and i'm so glad that we have the memories now.

**Warning: major photos ahead...**

it is about a 6 hour drive from mooresville to d.c.
we arrived in the evening...the monuments at night are beautiful!
our first stop - the white house - only 2 blocks from our hotel
the kids loved seeing abe in all his glory
the reflecting pool was empty and under construction to repair leaks
i love dylan in this photo...
phil took a picture of us at the WWII memorial pool...we were laughing at the ducks and their funny diving show
the weather was amazing -
- but poor marissa's allergies were in overdrive
this was a $10 slice of pizza... eating in d.c. isn't cheap!
eli was SUCH a good kid on this trip...here he fell asleep at the air and space museum with a cheek-full of gummy bears
mmm...mcdonald's soft serve...
i love this picture of marissa - she's kind of getting to that age where she doesn't want her picture taken...and this is SO her personality
this is a mother...doing anything she can to not let her toddler out of his stroller for any reason!
i love this picture - this is the kids and i at the library of congress...my all-time fav building in d.c.  it's beautiful!
on our way to virginia, we stopped at a the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center museum near the dulles airport.  it has tons of fun stuff to look at and the kids had a good time.  unfortunately the nice day was upset when we lost dylan for about 35 minutes.  security finally found him headed out the door - thinking that we were at the car - and returned him safely to us.  it was HORRIBLE...
post-nearly-losing-our-kid...
and we attempted some easter-y photos but it was cold and the kids were just not quite in the mood...but here are some cute shots
