Sunday Six - 3/27/11

it's time for another edition of the sunday six!

1.  i'm exhausted.  i have an eli - and it's exhausting!  he's at a challenging age, and i keep trying to remind myself of that every time i mop the floor because he's dumped his plate off his tray.  and i'm not kidding when i say it's an every-meal-occurrence.  perhaps he'll start dining on the patio??  his only saving grace is that he's super cute.  check it.
2.  the big kids are at a fun age right now.  marissa is really starting to be more aware of her looks and loves putting outfits together, doing her own hair, and choosing the right accessories.  i admit there is still some major work to be done there - but hey, i'm no fashionista myself!  it's sure fun having a girl around to do girlie stuff with.  we love to shop and have "girl gab".  dylan seems to be coasting along right now.  he's not really interested in one thing or another.  he breezes through his homework and loves to play video games.  he's kind of starting to show a bit of attitude sometimes lately.  the other day he told me i was "lazy" when i asked him to put his laundry away.  he went on and on about how "you don't have to do school work and homework (he's in kindergarten - neither does he!!) and you do nothing all day."  truthfully it really hurt my feelings.  he's always been my sweet, kind boy - never talked back and never ever treated me like that.  it's all part of growing up i guess - testing the boundaries, etc.  oh it just breaks my heart that he might keep that crap up!
3.  my tennis elbow has returned - with a vengeance!  i was doing pretty well there for a while.  kept up with my physio appointments and did all my exercises at home.  i was released from treatment and thought i was finally cured.  the other night, the kids and i decided to play "pick up the pine cones" - a game they play with daddy a lot.  i knew it would be easier with a rake - and thought i was being very careful and gingerly moving it around the yard.  well i've messed my arm up again.  it hurts.  it's stiff.  ouch.

4.  i often refer to eli's age/stage as my postpartum.  i don't have a hard time with a newborn.  i ride the new mommy high for several months afterward.  it's when they get old enough to run away and ignore you and scream because they don't know english yet....well that's when i get the blues.  i'm sure it's because i'm older.  i'm sure it's because he's my third and i'm tired.  and i'm sure it's going to put me in the looney bin if it doesn't get better soon.  and i'm sure i still love him.
and off he goes....
so we got him some new wheels
sorry buddy - no helmet - no bike!

5.  happy birthday ERIN!  today is my sister in law's bday.  i think she reads my blog so i just wanted to giver her a shout out on her special day!

6.  the coupon craze continues.  i'm not a freak about it - but i do think it is something i'll keep up with.  i mean, why not?  i cut out coupons and leave stores with free stuff.  it's just too easy.  my best haul this week was target: $148 worth of stuff for $60.  i left feeling like i'd robbed the place!

oh! i know how you feel about eli! i feel the same way times 2!!! church is a disaster every week. i feel like boycotting until the boys can go to nursery. this is definitely a rough age. here's hoping things will start to get better. if they could just say a few words (or understand a few...) things would be better.

I do read your blog! =) And I got your email. Thanks. I had a great day. =) I hear you on the age thing too--- It takes so much patience at this stage. I have taught Adeleine the necessary signs (please, more, out (of her highchair), eat, milk, and sorry). Those help keep us sane-ish. Ian's advice: "Poppy just needs lots of good love, Mom." (That was before she started pinching him.)

Yay for the Sunday Six and boo for Eli being 16 months old. It really is such a hard age...they're stuck between being a baby and a full blown toddler and I think life is as frustrating for them as it is for us dealing with them because they can't talk yet! Just remember that this too shall pass and before you know it he'll be telling you you're lazy! (that's funny, by the way!) My favorite is when Brady tells me, 'I have to do EVERYTHING around here!' You're kids are darling and you're an awesome mama! Love you!
