ok, so i've pretty much decided that whatever car we buy, it will be used. i want something that will be "kid proof" for the next few years and when they're a bit older, that's when i'll splurge on something really nice.
so i've talked with a few of you who have shopped through costco. i am wondering if any of you have dealt with carmax before. i spent some time on their website yesterday and was fairly impressed with it. lots of information right at my fingertips - and they have several versions of the cars at the top of my list.
also i'd like to hear if any of you have ever bought/sold cars on ebay or craigs list. i did some comparison shopping on both sites yesterday as well. ideally we'd like to sell my car on our own, and i want some feedback from the experts :)
is it obvious yet why i drive my husband crazy with my need to research everything to death?
ps. we test drove the toyota sequoia two days ago and i also finally got to drive the acura mdx. i thought the sequoia was enormous - it felt like driving a truck - and i found it quite noisy on the road. i thoroughly enjoyed the mdx. it was a 2007. it was quiet, smooth and very comfortable. we had the toyota guy bring the sequoia to the house yesterday to see if it would fit in the garage. it did - barely. it would be like docking the lunar module for me to park that beast every day. i think i'll cross it off my list.

do not go through carmax!! matt and i looked there when we bought my subaru. we ended up buying my car through ebay and saved a ton. carmax was a joke and way overpriced!!
my sister sold her car to carmax, only because they were desperate to sell it. so, if you can help it don't use them.

Hi Angie, I enjoy reading your blog. Ok, You know Jeff is a mechanic so I told him about your blog entry and this was his advice. He said he has sold items on Craig's list and that would be a good place. Buying cars on ebay he said he knows people who have had bad experiences with that so you might want to be extra careful.
I love craigslist! I have heard though that selling on craigslist can solicit unwanted "nips" from dealerships who offer to sell your car for you, rather than individuals, but whatever. It gets the word out, right? There's also Auto Trader.We bought our Pilot from an individual who listed on there and it was a very smooth transaction--- we also sold our Golf on it and it was smooth (and really quick) as well. I think they have an option to list until it sells or something. If you buy from a dealer, we read to buy close to the end of the month since they are trying to reach their quota and might give you a better deal. Good luck! Are you going to test drive a Pilot? Not a huge beast, doesn't feel like you're driving an appliance, and really reasonably priced, and great gas mileage (relatively). =)
