2) i heard a conversation the other day that really helped me to realize how things would be if i had a full time job - which is something i do tend to dream about from time to time.
we were at swim lessons and these women sitting next to me were talking. one was very pregnant - the other, her friend, she hadn't seen in a while. the usual banter back and forth led to the pregnant woman asking her friend how work was. the friend had mentioned that her husband recently found a new job where he was traveling monday thru thursday each week. i immediately sympathized with her. she was confident about being alone, saying things i've heard myself say like, "you just make do...you just figure it out....it is what it is..."
she was obviously loved her job and then said she was "thankful for the break from the kids. dropping them off at day care is almost the best part of my day." i just thought, how awful! i know that moms often have to work - maybe she started working because her husband had been laid off. but my heart hurt a little bit for those kids. i'm sure daycare can be a good experience for some, but how badly those babes probably want their mom...it was bothersome. and i think overhearing that conversation was a small blessing for me. i truly am someone who needs those little reminders that i'm where i need to be...home.
3) the 2009 race season has begun! i admit, i was actually pretty excited to see my husband's blood, sweat and tears tearing around the track at 190 miles an hour. of course we were sad to say goodbye to him as he left for daytona. i can usually keep a brave face, but it is difficult to see our little ones hug and kiss him at the door. the older they get, the harder it gets, but i hope they realize that he is working so hard for them...for us. the old irish blessing came to mind the last few days, and i thought it was rather applicable to our employment and the prayers that i offer constantly on my husband's behalf (except maybe for the part about the fields):
"May the road rise up to meet you;
May the wind always be at your back,
The sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow if His hand."
--------Irish Blessing
4) "snow, snow, just look at the snow! come out, come out, come out in the snow!" almost these very words from one of our favorite kids books were uttered from my children's mouths this past week. for them, i was very happy. the words out of my mouth were more like, "shut the door, i'm freezing!!!"
just check out that accumulation! as a side note, it was over 70 degrees today. now THAT is my kind of winter!
5) ah, the enormous hole. yes, the enormous hole in my living room wall. of course, i was told as drywall was flying and philip eagerly sawed back and forth, that the hole would exist only one short week. alas, it remains. but at least there has been SOME progress. and i found out that my husband is quite nimble, climbing in and out of said hole. maybe he did a lot of spelunking in his youth??
the head scratch is always a dangerous sign...
6) here is the latest from my singing 3-year old. now, if you have not seen the movie WALL*E you won't really understand this song. dylan has always loved that movie and it is too cute to hear him sing the opening song. what makes this video even more entertaining for me, is that he'd been eating apples and peanut butter before he started to sing. dylan has a speech impediment, but it is nowhere near as bad as this video seems to show...his little mouth full of peanut butter made it harder for him to make the SSSSs.
this is already by far, one of my favorite videos of this kid. he's a hoot.
have a great week everyone!

i think i would die if i had to drop my kids off at daycare too. i think for me 'the idea' of having a job is romantic but i think the reality would be so much harder. i would feel guilty 24/7- we are very lucky girls! and hats off to working moms- especially the single ones. (although with phil's travel you probably feel like one)
That video is darling. It reminds me of a certain little brother of mine who'd sing the same song at about that age. Except he learned it from actually watching "Hello Dolly" over and over... and over.
I can't believe you over heard that conversation. It kind of makes me sick. I bet she can't record cute videos of her kids like you can, because she's too busy working and dropping her kids off. I shouldn't be so judgemental, but I just feel so strongly about staying home, too.
I love Dylan! You know how I was saying last night on the phone how I think him and Lola look alike well I think it's in the eyes.
Oh man. Dylan is so cute.
The best part of her day is dropping her kids off?! That's tragic. Poor kids. I miss my babies when I'm at work, and I'm only gone a couple hours at a time.
Dylan is so dang cute. He's growing up so fast!
i feel so sad for those kids whose mom LOVES to drop them off at daycare. Not only do those kids probly want their mom, they NEED their mom! If you don't like your kids, why have them in the first place? I understand needing a break. In fact I sometimes envy my cousin's wife who works 2 days a week and is able to have a break but every day? Not only that, I assume that if dropping her kids off is the best part of her day then picking them up would have to be the worst. Anyways, D is so cute in the video but I'm glad I got to hear him sing it over the phone!
