here are a few things that have been going on:
*the basement framing has been going very smoothly. minimal trips back and forth to lowe's for forgotten items, plus a very capable (and inexpensive) handy-man have made the experience very easy. we've done some work ourselves too.

the "tom glenn specials". these shelves rock!
these shelves are not complete (phil and i added these after the others) and will be where most of our smaller food storage items will go - above the water barrels. our food is currently on ikea shelves in the main basement area. there is still some organization to do. but i'm very pleased with my husband who hung all the sheet rock, built-in the safe, hung the drop ceiling, added can lights and built the bases for the water barrels. my dad gets major credit for the rest of the shelves...and i did all the painting.

i won't bore with more pictures of framed walls, since it's hard to see where everything would go if you haven't actually seen my basement. as things move along i'll post more photos.
*when we dined on asian food a few weeks ago, phil introduced me to edamame. i'm sure many of you have had it before (soy beans) but it was my first time and i was hooked. last night for dinner we had it with our yummy chicken alfredo. i love easy meals like these...and the kids loved popping beans out of the pods!
*i wish i was better with scrapbooking and the like. i have lots of paper, cute little decals and embellishments, and even scrapbooks. but i just cannot get into it! i made my first digital book - a gift for my inlaws for christmas - and i think it turned out great...definitely more satisfying for me than the traditional method.
but i'm admittedly bothered that all of my scrapbooking supplies sit there unused. that is....until yesterday.
i had purchased a belt for dylan that was too big. so in an effort to avoid having to buy another one, which he would grow out of anyway, i hauled out my little scrapbook tool kit and pounded away. belt now fits and should last him at least until he's 30.
*a cute dylan story...on sunday during sharing time in primary, dylan, who is now a sunbeam and sits smack i the middle of the front row, was eager to be involved. but not in the way you might think. when the teacher said, "who is being reverent and would like to have a turn?" he, in his not so subtle little-man voice, and at about 160 decibels said, "MY SISTER MARISSA WANTS TO HAVE A TURN!" we all had a laugh. he was sweet...such a thoughtful boy.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Edamame! YUMMY!!!!! D is so cute. He really is such a nice brother and your basement framing is coming along! Where did you get the Tom Glenn special shelves? We need some of those!
Wow, Ang, you guys have been working hard. It's looking great! Such a satisfying feeling when you have your food storage up-to-date, eh? We call it our "insurance." If, heaven forbid, we find ourselves out of work, we'll still be able to eat. Too bad we couldn't find a way to store fresh edamame- we love the stuff, too.=)
Where did you get those fancy casters for your water barrels? We have a barrel (and water) but no way to move it! =)
Your basement looks awesome!! Congratulations on getting through the nitty gritty stuff. We will look forward to the after pictures.

Ian calls Sharing Time "Kate's Primary" and he too is so aware that she is there. Dylan is such a sweet guy.
I love Dylan/primary stories. In fact, I love any D and Mari stories. They are such cute kids! I miss them terribly. Your dinner looks so good...I happen to have light alfredo sauce and pre-cooked chicken in my fridge...thinking of a yummy lunch! But missing the Edamame. Had them before and yes - they are delicious and fun to eat!
